Whether it is adding new features, improving existing capabilities based on customer feedback, or providing updated documentation, Microsoft Purview ensures that businesses are equipped to navigate the ever-changing compliance requirements. In this article, we will explore the latest features and enhancements rolled out by Microsoft Purview.

Endpoint DLP Just-in-time Protection

One of the newest offerings in preview is the Endpoint DLP Just-in-time Protection. This feature applies a candidate policy to Windows 10/11 devices. It blocks all egress activities on monitored files until the policy evaluation successfully completes. This enhanced protection helps businesses maintain data security and prevent unauthorized data leaks.

Fine-tune Exclusions

Another preview feature allows users to fine-tune exclusions by creating detection groups and variants of built-in indicators. This empowers businesses to customize their compliance settings and tailor them to their specific needs, ensuring a more efficient and accurate compliance process.

Enhanced SharePoint Site Integration

Microsoft Purview now offers an update that removes the limitation on viewing and adding a SharePoint site. Customers can now see and add SharePoint sites to exclusions and priority content, even if they don't have permissions to access the site. This enhancement simplifies the compliance management process and ensures comprehensive coverage across all SharePoint sites.

Built-in Labeling Support for Double Key Encryption (DKE)

In a significant milestone, the built-in labeling support for Double Key Encryption (DKE) is now in general availability as a parity feature for the AIP add-in. This feature provides businesses with enhanced data protection capabilities, allowing them to encrypt sensitive information and ensure secure collaboration and sharing within their organization.

Improved Contextual Summary for Auto-Labeling Policies

Microsoft Purview introduces a Contextual Summary tab for auto-labeling policies that are in simulation. This new tab highlights matched content and its surrounding context when reviewing files on SharePoint or OneDrive. This helps users confirm positive matches and fine-tune policies to ensure accurate labeling and compliance adherence. (Note: Contextual summary is not supported for emails).

Expanded PDF Support

Microsoft Purview now offers expanded PDF support for auto-labeling policies, default sensitivity labels for SharePoint document libraries, and labeling activities in Office on the web. This includes manual labeling, displaying labeled documents, and supporting encrypted PDFs. Businesses can now utilize PDF documents for data loss prevention (DLP), eDiscovery, and search, bolstering their compliance efforts across multiple file formats.

Enhancements to Reports and Forensic Evidence Policies

Updates have been made to improve the reporting options within Microsoft Purview. The Export option in detailed reports now displays items and actions matched within the selected date range. Additionally, forensic evidence policies no longer have a limit on the number of users, providing businesses with greater flexibility in managing their compliance processes.

Microsoft Purview continues to pave the way for effective risk and compliance management. The latest updates and features discussed highlight Microsoft's commitment to helping businesses navigate the compliance landscape. By leveraging the powerful capabilities of Microsoft Purview, organizations can ensure data security, streamline compliance processes, and stay ahead of ever-evolving compliance requirements.
